So, I stayed up late last night to watch POTC:AWE. WOW!!!!
I was impressed, entertained and left wanting more. I love Pirates and this movie didn't disappoint me (much...I have rarely liked sequels as much as the original with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade being the exception).
Like most movies I've watched lately, this one seemed a bit choppy. But the story flowed rather well. It didn't start where the 2nd one ended, and I haven't decided if that was a good thing or not. It started with Barbosa and Elizabeth, not my two favorite characters (duh...Capt Jack and Will Turner)...Matter of fact, we don't see either of the two until much later in the movie.
The main idea of the movie is the quest to resurrect Capt. Jack (who was killed at the end of 2) and retrieve/destroy Davy Jones' heart. Along the way, Lord Cutler Beckett causes mischief and mayhem. And we also find out the goddess Calypso has been bound to human form and is the love of Davy Jones' life. She's also the reason he cut out his heart.
There is a meeting of the Pirate Brethren Court and they elect a new King. Interesting choice is all I have to say...and BTW, Keith Richards is NOT the king, but he makes a very UGLY pirate.
I think I need to watch this movie again (and again and again) before I make up my mind where it ranks in the grand scheme...
But I'll rate it: I WANT 0 Hours back. It's well worth the 3 hours!
Next up...I'm not sure, maybe Georgia Rules, or Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix

Ghostrider
Yesterday, it was yucky out, so I decided to watch one of the movies I had rented (FINALLY). So I chose Ghostrider. And it surprised me. I was expecting a very dumb movie (which it was) but not one I would really like. But...
Nicolas Cage plays Johnny Blaze, a carnie motorcycle daredevil. His father is part of his act, but is ill. Johnny makes a deal with the devil to cure his father and sells his soul. The devil (played by Peter Fonda who even says "Far Out") uses his usual trickery when he cures the dad, but you'll have to watch it to see what happens after that. There's also a girl that Johnny was going to run away with...
Fast Forward....Johnny is an adult, a daredevil in the mode of the late Evel Kneviel. And the devil's son, Blackheart, makes an appearance, wanting to start the End of Days. It's all rather formulaic, with evil henchmen and a mentor for Johnny (played by the ever sexy Sam Elliott).
This movie has chuckles along the way, could have been funnier, could have been scarier. But all in all, I liked it.
My recommendation: I want 0 hours back...it was good, but not great!
Up next, maybe Georgia Rules but most likely Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End
