I had been wanting to see this movie for a while. The trailer on iTunes was thought-provoking. And I am very interested in alternative history.
But I have to admit, this movie did NOT live up to its trailer.
It's an independent film, from Britain. It is a mockumentary supposedly produced by the BBC. The premise is the South won the War of Northern Aggression and slavery is still allowed by law. Very slight humor, with mock commercials advertising items like "The Shackle" and "SNN - The Slave Shopping Network" fell flat. But the history clips and the interviews were somewhat realistic.
I think the filmmaker was quite brave, in this day and age, to make this film. It was done with tongue firmly in cheek and he got away with it, without cries of racism and discrimination.
I guess I just think it could have been better.
All in all, well, I want my 2 hours back. (Or at least 1 hour back, I fell asleep during the bit on reconstruction)
Next up...The Last Sin Eater
