I don't usually watch true crime dramas. I actually don't watch movies to relive the past or to find out the truth. My normal reason for watching a movie is to escape. So, watching Zodiac was definitely a departure from the norm for me...
Zodiac is taken from the actual case files from the Zodiac case in the 60's and 70's. The killer was never caught, but the police (or rather one detective) never actually gave up. Two of the three jurisdictions involved still have open casefiles on it.
It shows the struggle to solve a case that grows increasingly colder. It also showcases a good performance by Jake Gyllenhall as a cartoonist who becomes obsessed with the unsolved case. I liked Robert Downey, Jr. as the crime reporter who is slowly spiralling into alcoholism. It was a poignant role for him. The detective is played by Mark Ruffalo and he portrays a flawed, but very interesting law enforcement official.
All in all, the movie was a bit disjointed at times, and it skipped time a bit. But it was presented well.
My rating is I WANT 0 HOURS back. It was a good movie.
Next up, I'm not sure...maybe Ghostrider or Georgia Rules. Those are the two that are being sent to me.
